Ludlow Dog Day 2018

Ludlow Dog Day was born out of the ambition of Ludlow Rotary Club to hold a major annual fund raising event. Dog Day 2018. on 22nd July, will be the fifth time the event has been staged and over the years more than £75,000 has been raised for local charities. Some of the key ingredients that make it such a success with dog owning families include the magnificent setting on the lawns in front of Stokesay Court, the exciting dog display teams performing in the main ring and in the other rings the opportunity for dogs and their owners to take part in over 20 events. These range from Fun Scurries to the Waggiest Tail; from the Best Rescue Dog to the Fastest Sausage Eater!  This year the new attractions include the display team Heelwork to Music and for the more energetic dogs Fun Dog Racing. It promises to be a fun packed day out for dogs and their families.

Last year Dog Day was a great success with well over 3000 people attending and too many dogs to count. The core team of Ludlow Rotarians were helped by some 150 volunteers, young and old, from a wide range of organisations including the Scouts, Brownies, Young Farmers, Air Cadets and other Rotary Clubs. In addition there were some 29 sponsors, 30 programme advertisers plus over 35 stallholders. Without the hard work and dedicated support of all the volunteers along side all the other people, businesses and organisations who so generously contributed, the day could not have been delivered and Ludlow Rotary Club greatly appreciate and value everyones support.

After costs the final sum raised in 2017 was up on the previous year at over £21,000 and this has now been distributed to a wide range of charities and organisations, including the nominated charities Canine Partners, Hope House Hospice for Children, Forest Dog Rescue and Alzheimer’s UK. In addition Ludlow Rotary Club invited applications to Ludlow Rotary Cares, their small grant scheme that awards grants of up to £500 to small community organisations within 15 miles of Ludlow who demonstrate they can make a real difference in their community. In the 3 years Ludlow Rotary Cares has run over £17,000 has been distributed to nearly 40 local groups and organisations. This year the beneficiaries will be Hope House Hospice for Children, Shrewsbury Branch of Guide Dogs, St Michael’s Hospice and Ludlow Rotary Cares.
