Ludlow Rotary Club has a long-held reputation for raising funds in support of charities and other community-based organisations, especially those operating in and around Ludlow. In recent years our main mechanism for distributing grants has been through our annual small community grants scheme – ‘Ludlow Rotary Cares’.
Sadly, due to Covid restrictions, we had to cancel most of our fund-raising events during 2020 and 2021, notably the Ludlow Dog Day, which meant that the Club was not in a position to operate Ludlow Rotary Cares.
In the meantime, members of the Club contributed personally towards a Hardship Fund to enable the Club to offer small grants to local organisations and charities which were working to support our neighbours during the pandemic. A total of £7370 collected and grants totaling £3735 were made. The Charities and bodies who received grants were:
- Ludlow Food Bank
- Hands Together Ludlow
- Friends of Coreley
- South Shropshire Domestic Violence Service
- Ludlow Furniture Scheme
- Rotary Dist 1210 KidsOutToybox
- Hope House Childrens Hospices
- St Michael’s Hospice
As the COVID restrictions have eased, the Club has now decided to close the Hardship Fund and transfer the residue to Ludlow Rotary Cares for distribution in the next round of Ludlow Rotary Cares grants.
