Ludlow Rotary Cares 2017 – Making a difference

Ludlow Rotary Cares 2017 – Making a difference in our community

Here is some feedback from organisations that received Ludlow Rotary Cares Grants in 2017.

The Loudwater Studio: Nikki Hook, Business Development Manager at Loudwater Studio writes: We are now regularly welcoming young pre-school children to the Studio every Thursday who are having fun trying out a range of different creative activities. We also recently ran a workshop with Ludlow Youth Club who were making ceramic poppies.

The aim is for us to make over 100, of these (one for every local life lost in WWI) and the Youth Club gave the project a boost by making poppies both for the community project and to take home. It was a great session, with everyone having fun.

Ludlow Rotary Cares helps SpArc Theatre to hold an autism friendly event – Liz Still of SpArc Theatre in Bishops Castle writes:

Hello, I just wanted to write and let you know about our Film Screening. We had showed Despicable Me 3 on December 1st  for our Autism friendly accessible film.

The  award evening in Ludlow was lovely and I was able to make new contacts with other groups which I hope to build on in the future. “Working Together” were planning to bring a group to see the film but due to transport and other logistical issues they were unable to come. We had about 25 people attend and they really enjoyed the film. The atmosphere was really lovely and everyone came out smiling.

Thank you again for the generous donation- I hope to build on this and possible do more “Friendly” screenings in the future. Best Wishes Liz Still –SpArc Theatre.

Working Together Ludlow – Nicola North, CEO (voluntary) Working Together (Ludlow) Ltd emailed  to say:

I have attached a photograph which features one of our members in front of the Rotary bought freezer. She is filing in the fridge and freezer temperature chart as part of the duties involved in running the Cafe.  This activity is now undertaken by more of our members since the fund from Rotary not only enabled us to buy a commercial freezer, replacing an old inefficient chest model.  But also encouraged the replacement and purchase of another old freezer.

We are most appreciative of the Rotary Club support. Warmest wishes. – Nicola

Onibury Village Hall – Tony Mantel sent the attached photos of the new tables at Onibury Village Hall.

The brown one is one of the old ones we have replaced. – Thanks once again. Tony

Ludlow Town Juniors – Club Secretary, Katrina Tomkinson, emailed “With all the rain and snow we have had in the last couple of months we have had few opportunities to get our new mower out. I have attached some pictures for you. Once again can I thank you and the Rotary Club for your generosity it has been a huge help to a Ludlow Town Juniors.”

Craven Arms Play Day 2018

For the second year in a row, Craven Arms Area Youth Group we were extremely grateful to be awarded a grant of £500 from Ludlow Rotary Club, which enabled us to organise a fantastic FREE play day for South Shropshire on the Monday 6thAugust. The weather was glorious (even a little too hot if we were honest!) for our event and we were indebted to the following organisations for attending and supporting the range of activities we had on offer again this year:

  • West Mercia Police
  • Connexus Housing
  • Scrappies
  • Middle Marches Lions
  • St Andrews Community Church
  • South Shropshire Furniture Scheme
  • Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre
  • Shropshire Youth Association
  • Shropshire Council Leisure Services
  • South Shropshire Gymnastics Club
  • South Shropshire Youth Forum

Those attending were able to take part in the following fantastic activities;

Football activities, glitter tattoos, arts and crafts, climbing wall, bouncy castle, soft play, large garden games, take a look inside the police car, bush craft, treasure hunt, basket making, a visit from the bookstart bear, gymnastics sessions and outdoor gym equipment induction sessions

We gave out stickers to over 250 children which was a fantastic turnout (we estimate there were more but we were too busy to count each child!), with over 180 adults as well attending.

Feedback on the day and after the event was very positive with residents very grateful for the event.

Service providers such as the Police and South Shropshire Youth Forum and Connexus Housing were able to engage and offer support to families and signpost people in need of additional information with regard to issues of concern. Therefore our aim to provide information and support in addition to lots of fun was again achieved.

People again attended from all over South Shropshire with the majority from Craven Arms, but there were also a number of families from Ludlow and Church Stretton.

We are full of enthusiasm for next year and are so grateful to the Rotary Club for your support.

We were all frantically busy on the day and we definitely need to recruit more volunteers to help us, but as usual a fantastic effort from all of our group members.

Thank you again to the Rotary Club for enabling this fantastic event to continue.
