The Rotary Club of Ludlow draws its vibrant and active membership of women and men from all walks of life who embrace the guiding principle of Rotary that are expressed in its motto: “Service above self”. Not surprisingly, all Ludlow Rotarians share a keen and active interest in the community in which we live – whether that is our local, national or international community.
Within this website you will discover the enormous amount of charitable work that the club undertakes both in terms of the time and energy given to running activities as well as that given to fund raising. To be able to achieve all of this requires great team work and team spirit and that in turn means good fellowship supported by an active social life. Social events involving members and their guests include quiz nights, bowling, visit to cricket matches, a Burns Night supper and get togethers to try out the menu at local pubs and restaurants.
For the last 10 years Ludlow Dog Day has been our main annual fund raising event, held every July at Stokesay Court. A great day out for the family and their dogs, and raises a lot of money for local charities! This year we taking a break but will be raising money with a duck race on the River teme, a concert for young musicians and a golf day at Ludlow Golf Club.
At a local level we support the young people of the area with activities such as RotaKids with primary schools, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme for those in Y12 and 13, and mock job interviews for students at Ludlow College .
It is not just the young, however, who benefit. Amongst its many activities the club runs the Ludlow Tree of Light which helps to provide comfort for those who are bereaved; an annual small grants scheme called Ludlow Rotary Cares for local organisations and charities and there are regular one off fund raising for particular causes that are in the news, such disaster appeals. Here are details of who we supported recently.
Within the International Community Rotarians across the UK provide Shelter Boxes® for instant dispatch to provide disaster relief and Ludlow Rotarians regularly provide significant support for this project as well as providing financial aid for a school in Tanzania and supporting the End Polio Now campaign which Rotary initiated in 1989. Through the efforts of Rotarians throughout the world Polio has almost been eradicated. The Ludlow Rotary Club is twinned with the Rotary Club of Ludlow, Vermont, USA and the two clubs have jointly funded several international projects.
