Ludlow Rotary Cares 2015 – Making a difference in our community
Here is some feed back from some of the recipients of Ludlow Rotary Club grants in 2015:
Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes
The unfunded charity was established in 2014 and is 100% led by volunteers. Since our launch we have been able to extend our services across Shropshire, Staffordshire and into Cheshire. The donation of £450 covered the cost of the purchase of a satellite navigation system plus fittings for a local bike. This bike is essential to the Charity as all the riders are volunteers, and the bike is used to transport samples between hospitals, as well as delivering medication to private homes and drugs to Hospice patients.

Orleton Village Hall
The purchase of a brand new shiny cooker from the Ludlow Rotary Club grant has resulted in a tremendous addition to the facilities we can offer at our local village hall. The new cooker was quickly ‘christened’ by our local Brownies who were very impressed by it. We have 2 local weddings at the hall in the coming summer months and it is so nice to be able to tell them that we have a brand new, reliable cooker for their catering needs. It will get plenty of use in the future by regular users and also at many one off events.

Marches Family Network
The donation has assisted children in Shropshire with a disability to access play and social opportunities. It has contributed to an assigned play worker to support a particular child whose communication skills and confidence have increased. G is encouraged to try new games and engage in “messy play”. He giggles all the way home from Shropshire activity sessions and his parents are delighted with the personal progress he has made.

Hands Together Ludlow
We are a new start social enterprise that promotes the formation of luncheon clubs, good neighbours schemes and other community projects at locations throughout Ludlow and the surrounding villages to improve opportunities for building relationships in the community. The grant has enabled us to meet the expenses and consultancy fees of formally establishing ourselves as a Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

South Shropshire Furniture Scheme
The grant has enabled us to increase our community activities from monthly to fortnightly; starting a craft session as well as the Lets Get Cooking sessions. These sessions, as well as giving people the opportunity to learn new skills help increase self esteem and reduce isolation. We have run 6 craft session and 6 cookery sessions so far with very positive feedback from people attending the sessions about how it is helping with their depression and even helping them stop smoking!

Friends of Clee Hill Forum
The grant has enabled us to support the Numbers Plus (defibrillator) Team and its equipment, as well as install two signs on Dhustone lane. In addition we have increased village activities with a welcome pack for new residents to the village, operate a Community Speed Watch scheme and hold a clean up day.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms
There have been four very successful events, working closely with the Rockspring Community Centre and the residents of the Sandpits Estate throughout the whole project. Six Roald Dahl events are taking place over the summer holidays, and in conjunction with the Library, there will be themed workshops and screening of Roald Dahl films. There was also a Mario Kart Marathon with children playing in competition on a Nintendo Wii through the projector in our Oscars room. Two Score and Ten
The grant enabled free tickets for Shakespeare’s Macbeth to be offered to local school pupils who were studying Shakespeare, or who were interested generally in the theatre. It was hoped this would foster the enthusiasm and future involvement of young aspiring actors and those interested in stage management and theatrical production and would significantly contribute to our vision to be a group which genuinely benefits the local community.
