We had promised that our second Dog Day held on 19 July 2015 would be “even bigger and even better” than the first, and so it was!

With 21 fun dog competitions ranging from the scruffiest mutt to the fastest sausage eater; 17 dog demonstrations including flyball, dog obedience and assistance dogs; 4 rings, a fun dog scurry and a gun dog scurry; a children’s play area; over 50 stalls supplying everything for the passionate dog lover; a range of food and drink outlets; and a day of glorious sunshine; the event exceeded all expectations.

Some 3000 people, many with their canine friends, turned up to enjoy a great family day helping the Club to raise around £20,000 for the many charities that the Club supports, in particular this year the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital, Canine Partners, and St Michaels Hospice, Hereford.

There are so many people whose help is crucial when contemplating what is fast becoming a major event. Our thanks must go to our generous host Caroline Magnus for allowing us to use the beautiful grounds of Stokesay Court, and to popular TV presenter Jules Hudson for opening the event and spending time enjoying the atmosphere of the day with the crowds. And we must not forget our many sponsors, in particular Nock Deighton, Shukers, Teme Vets and Hobsons Brewery. At the heart of the planning and organisation, however, are the Club’s many volunteer friends who ensured the day ran smoothly – particularly those who joined us from other Rotary Clubs: Brewood, Bridgnorth, Knighton and Wrekin.

Finally, our thanks go to our photographer, Anna, more of whose excellent photographs of the day can be found at:

We hope everyone had a great day.
