The Rotary Club of Ludlow draws its vibrant and active membership of women and men from all walks of life who embrace the guiding principle of Rotary that are expressed in its motto: \u201cService above self\u201d. Not surprisingly, all Ludlow Rotarians share a keen and active interest in the community in which we live \u2013 whether that is our local, national or international community.<\/p>\n
Within this website you will discover the enormous amount of charitable work that the club undertakes both in terms of the time and energy given to running activities as well as that given to fund raising. To be able to achieve all of this requires great t<\/span>eamwork and team spirit and that in turn means good fellowship supported by an active social life. Social events involving members and their guests include quiz nights, bowling, visits to cricket matches, a<\/span> Burns Night suppers and get togethers to try out the menu at\u00a0local pubs and restaurants.<\/p>\n Fundraising in support of the community underpins much of what we do. This is constantly evolving. While Ludlow Dog day was our main annual fundraising effort in past years, this is progressively being replaced by events such as fun Duck Races on the River Teme, golf days at Ludlow Golf Club and concerts often involving students from local schools at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms.<\/p>\n We are committed to supporting support the<\/span> young people of the area with activities such as RotaKids with the involvement of local primary schools, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme for those in Y12 and 13, and mock job interviews for students at Ludlow College and elsewhere.<\/p>\n It is not just the young, however, who benefit. Amongst its many activities the club runs the Ludlow Tree of Light<\/a> which helps to provide comfort for those who are bereaved; an annual small grants scheme called\u00a0Ludlow Rotary Cares<\/a>\u00a0for local organisations and charities and there are\u00a0regular one off fund raising for particular causes that are in the news, such disaster appeals.\u00a0Here are\u00a0details of who\u00a0we\u00a0supported<\/a> recently.<\/p>\n Within the International Community Rotarians across the UK provide Shelter Boxes\u00ae for instant dispatch to provide disaster relief and Ludlow Rotarians regularly provide significant support for this project as well as providing financial aid for a school in Tanzania and supporting the End Polio Now campaign which Rotary initiated in 1989. Through the efforts of Rotarians throughout the world polio has almost been eradicated.<\/p>\n The Ludlow Rotary Club is twinned with the Rotary Club of Ludlow, Vermont, USA and the two clubs have jointly funded several international projects.<\/p>\n We also enjoy a close association with the Ludlow Probus Club which offers the opportunity for retired businessmen and women to meet and socialise while also being informed on matters of general interest through a series of talks.
