Tree of Light

Each year Ludlow Rotary Club creates an opportunity for individuals and families to make personal dedications to a special person, in the memory of a loved one or to celebrate a special occasion, such as a birth or anniversary, while making a donation to charity. This year more than £500 has been raised and donated to Hands Together Ludlow, 52 Broad Street, Ludlow. A group which co-ordinates volunteers to help support a wide range of local people.

Design by Dan Chubb

2019 was the twelth year that the Club, in collaboration with Ludlow Town Council, has organised the Ludlow Tree of Light. When Castle Gardens were first illuminated in 2011 as part of the Town Christmas lighting scheme an ancient yew tree was chosen as the Tree of Light.

The Tree of Light is lit immediately after the Switch-On of the Town lights at 5pm, on the evening of the Medieval Fayre, the last Saturday in November. This year there was a torch-lit procession from the Harp Lane Deli led by carol singers to the tree in the Castle Gardens which, once switched on, presented a waterfall of lights creating a focus for dedications and good wishes.

All dedications received by Twelfth Night on January 5th 2020, are recorded in the Book of Remembrance and Celebration, on view at the Methodist Chapel, Broad Street, Ludlow throughout January 2020, as well as online at Tree of Light Dedications 2019.
